Good morning, Principal, teachers, and students,
I’m Yuen Long Him from Class 5A.
Hong Kong, as a vibrant international hub for various major events, is going to host a truly grand occasion this year: the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China. The National Games represent the country’s highest-level and largest multi-sport event.
Organised every four years by the General Administration of Sport of China, the 15th National Games will take place from 9th to 21st of November, 2025. This particular edition is historic, as it will be jointly hosted by Guangdong, Macao, and Hong Kong. Throughout the event, elite athletes from across various provinces will compete, striving to achieve their personal best and secure top honours for their regions.
The Hong Kong region is scheduled to host an exciting variety of events, including Track Cycling, Golf, Fencing, Handball, Rugby Sevens, Beach Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, and Triathlon. Additionally, a mass participation event, Bowling, was successfully held from 22nd to 24th of August this year.
For those interested in witnessing this world-class competition firsthand, tickets for the remaining events will be released in phases. You can register with your real name, using your Hong Kong identity card or Home Return Permit, on the official online ticketing platform before purchasing. I encourage you all to look into this exciting opportunity.
Since the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in July 1997, our athletes have participated in seven editions of the National Games. Collectively, the Hong Kong team has earned a total of 47 medals, a testament to the dedication of our local athletes. Our most successful discipline has been cycling, which has contributed 10 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze medals to this total. We have also seen success in events like equestrian, which earned one gold medal.
The 15th National Games holds immense significance for Hong Kong. Co-hosting a national multi-sports event is a major milestone in our city’s integration with the mainland and Macao.
This event serves as a powerful catalyst for social and regional development across the Greater Bay Area, fostering unity and connection through a shared love of sport. By hosting various competitions, Hong Kong will be able to showcase its capabilities and world-class facilities on a national stage. For instance, the Rugby Sevens event will be held at the impressive new Kai Tak Sports Park, highlighting the city's modern sports infrastructure. Furthermore, hosting is anticipated to bring tangible economic benefits through increased tourism, business activity, and investment in our local sports sector.
The 15th National Games is truly a meaningful and historic event for Hong Kong and for all of us here. Let us embrace this unique opportunity to witness the spirit of athleticism and the power of unity. I encourage every student and staff member to actively follow or participate in this great sporting festival.
Thank you.
